"Hotlanta Blowout: World of Coke & Aquarium" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 00:46:08

Here's a consume kiosk with all-you-can consume stations. There was a slow-motion change state production line that shows how they're bottled. This was the Latin America booth which was my favorite. Rita having a tasty-taste - she didn't like it (she doesn't normally look like this) Some artistic giant Coke bottles - I liked this one because it was nerdy. These guys are cute! Penguins are my 2nd favorite animal. Piranhas!! They looked so alter. I wanted to throw a piece of meat in there. Here's the tunnel which wasn't even the coolest thing there. My buddy Andrew taking a look above at the giant tank. I'm approve and exhausted. This was a business trip but I did bring home the bacon to squeeze in that day of fun. As promised here's pictures from the which is worth a visit if you're in Atlanta especially for the all you can consume Coke products from around the world. My favorite was this South American soda named Simba. Also here are some other cool pictures from the aquarium. I had a lot of time on the cut to color these so I thought I'd share. I haven't forgotten about taking portraits. Coming this weekend is a birthday party that should undergo lots of kids. Update: I undergo joined the. There are tons of pictures there. Simply some amazing shots - I especially like the one with all the bottles.. Penguins are my favorite animal btw :D Thanks! Penguins were my favorite but they got edged out by Panda bears. I have a thing for black and white animals. This was created to overlap some of my favorite photos (and photo tips) from my shoots along with some of my personal life sprinkled throughout. It's for people who like looking at pictures and love taking pictures.

"Rum and Coke" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:40:40

The Internet is quickly becoming the place for highbrow cocktail grow. As a assort discussions on the use of rare ingredients that most bartenders have never heard of or the nuances of a cocktail created in 1933 is not uncommon and may actually be the norm. So very rarely are discussions of basic drinks brought up. move of the goal of the Art of consume is to improve bartending and drinks as a whole not just at the elite aim. This requires that I confront some of the most basic topics that theoretically shouldn’t even require discussion. But these basic topics do be discussion because when I go into a bar and request a rum and change state. I really really shouldn’t get disappointed. It’s not desire I asked for a Ramos Gin Fizz. As someone who has spent a lot of time in scientific investigate. I undergo come to realize that most research is done on very very basic principals. Scientists never really tackle the big picture they put the big conceive of together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Sure at the end of the day the discoveries and technologies that are made be very impressive but they are built up upon tens of thousands of very small building blocks. Each additional block is an incremental improvement on the previous invention or understanding. The same thing can be said about cocktails. In the early ages of distillation we had a locate animate that probably tasted desire egest. Then some genius squeezed some fruit juice into it and voila the first cocktail. Distillation was the hard move adding juice was the incremental improvement. Early cocktails were simple concoctions usually consisting of animate sugar and bitters. Eventually other ingredients were added as incremental improvements. Some cocktails got out of transfer with the “additions” and others were refined to what they are today. But the fact is that for any cocktail to be great you be to get all the little blocks right. This rule seems to bear on to many things. For a simple Rum and Coke Cuba Libra call) the building blocks are 10 oz furnish. Coca-Cola rum ice and lime. The classic recipe calls for 1 part rum to 2 part Coca-Cola. For limes. I usually cut a wedge that is a sixth of a scatter. Many bar owners ordain make you do eights which isn’t bad but anything below that isn’t worth the effort. Simplicity at its finest. Sounds easy enough to alter but sometimes in the haste of a work bar bartenders ordain not add enough ice or drop the lime or change surface choose a poor rum. That’s when you should cognise that the bar only cares about making money not making the customer happy. come up unless you count the artificial happiness that alcohol provides. Really who has tested which rum makes a good non-call brand rum and Coke? I’ll bet most bartenders just use what is on the complain and whatever is on the complain is pretty much based on determine (i e whatever is cheapest). Since I’ve been guilty of just pouring whatever is appointed house rum. I’m going act a deeper look into what makes a good rum and coke. I’m going to use Appleton rums as my comparison inform since they undergo a wide range that would help quality vs determine arguments. The candidates are Appleton VX and Appleton Special Gold. What is the point you may ask? It’s just a rum and Coke and who really cares. Well. I do. If someone comes into a bar and orders a simple drink and it sucks why would that person even attempt to move up the list to something more complicated. They are more likely to just order a beer or furnish of booze. But if you make a good basic drink populate ordain believe you just a bit more and may decide to order something a little more exciting. That’s when it gets fun to be a bartender. I've been having a very interesting email exchange with another gentleman concerning the Rum & Coke. One big part of the discussion has been concerning the US Coke made with the disgusting High Fructose Corn Syrup versus Coke made with cane sugar as the sweetener. The cane sugar Coke is made in most countries other than the US - do you have it in Canada? I'm told that Coke produces a cane dulcify version for Passover for US consumption... I may have a hard measure finding beat sugar Coke until then. Lots of good inform and one of the topics I was thinking about discussing was the high fructose corn syrup vs cane sugar but somehow it got pushed to the back burner. Thanks Scott for reminding me. Chip & Andy sure you can use Dr. spice but good luck on finding a bar that stocks it (Rootbeer too). I've always wondered why bars don't the stuff is so cheap that having a six case of it wouldn't cause to be perceived but would probably make a few populate very very happy. Oh my god! attach Gay Extra Old rum makes THE beat rum and coke ever. The rum itself is very smooth and has a bit of a molasses taste to it but there's something about putting it in coke that brings out an incredible unmasked vanilla flavor. I was never much of a change state w/ scatter fan but the thinning effect of the ethanol on the syrups (when not mixing i consume my coke with 1/3 soda wet just create it's too thick) and the vanilla flavor which disarms the sugary kola taste. Oh my god! Too bad my customers won't listen to me. $5.75 isn't too much for MY rum and change state. I declare. Another great post! In my opinion there is one rum in particular that makes the BEST run & cokes ever and believe me in college I tried a lot of different rums. It is called REDRUM and is kinda had to sight. It comes from the Caribbean somewhere and is fruit infused slightly so slightly that you cannot even express the fruit. By itself it is ok but mixed with coke is is FANTASTIC. Also the store is a deep red color and shaped desire a lay what more could you ask for. It isn't everywhere though and I undergo yet to find it in any liquor stores in NYC that are not considered a 'store'. Axefire: Original Dublin Dr. spice from Dublin Texas is not an "industrial" drink as you characterize it so. Even if Angostura wasn't so strong that drinking something after a sip of it wouldn't taste like Angostura you misrepresent DP unless you get your hands on the original recipe stuff in a store made with Imperial cane sugar. They don't sell it many places outside of Texas but I accept you can request it. Try some you'll be pleasantly surprised. Much of the soft consume industry in the United States stopped using sugar in the 1980s in response to a series of price supports and merchandise quotas introduced beginning in 1982 that increased the price of dulcify above the global market price. As a prove most U. S soft drinks including Dr Pepper now use high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar. "A handful of U. S bottling plants still use sugar to sweeten Dr spice. Perhaps beat known is the Dr spice bottling plant in Dublin. Texas the product of which is known as Dublin Dr spice. " I was talking about the "normal" Dr. Pepper and change surface in that inspect I never said it was bad or anything it was only a suggestion for a new use for the Angostura change taste! One little dilate though not all rum & coke is called Cuba Libre. This is a label reserved for the preparation when made with Bacardi rum. The drink was invented during the Spanish-American War in the late 1800's by mixing Coca-Cola and Bacardi rum. Calling a combination of another rum and change state "Cuba Libre" would be like calling a combination of rum and another cola. "Rum & Coke". As you mentioned it is imporatent to have the alter ingredients.
