GPG has released the first small patch for Forged Alliance. The patch only removes the Secure-Rom protection it does not consider any balancing changes or bug fixes (according to the news on GPGnet). Kudos to GPG and THQ for this decision. I'm sure it will help avoid many problems a copy protection can cause for honest customers. It is a pleasant surprise that THQ agreed to this go within a few days after the release in the USA/Canada and even before the bet is available all over the world.
PS: Please act in object not to post anything that violates the especially those concerning warez! Keep it clean thx!!!
Secure-ROM is a horrible bit of malware more and more publishers are putting into their games. It checks on the net for authentication every measure you compete the game. I had to install Bioshock 3 times before it worked properly because Secure-ROM didn't like my computer.
Secure-Rom checks if you have the original DVD. Dont ask me how thats not my area of expertise but it can cause trouble with other programs. With the new conjoin you will only need your DVD when you lay the bet and log on to GPGnet the first time ASAIK once the patch has removed Secure-Rom you can play without having the DVD in your computer. This avoids scratches accidental destruction with coffee cups.. and makes the game start faster...
Oops, you defeat me to it. Molloy. Has FAs write protection an online verification? I thought they decided not to use the stupid Bioshock system...
Argh, and here I was expecting a fix. From what i can express the neptune cannot hit most ships with its beams; they are too high above the other ships' hulls and go alter over. They can't really do anything useful thus far...
The stupid Bioshock system has proved to be very good and as far as I experience it didn't get cracked until 4 weeks after channel (I might be do by here).

From what I can gather FA uses the same (maybe slightly updated) version of SecuROM as Sup Com. And I have not seen any reports on some kind of online authentication (like Bioshock) however it seems that the removal of the copy protection boosts the FPS a little bit...
With Bioshock when you uninstall the bet the Securom malware stays on your system. You undergo to find some other schedule to remove it for you.
Secure-ROM is a horrible bit of malware more and more publishers are putting into their games. It checks on the net for authentication every measure you compete the game.
Errr no. It can't do that and doesn't do that. Bioshock needs to connect to the 'net when it installs but that's it's own "feature" and is completely unrelated to SecuROM. There were rumors that Bioshock's SecuROM installs a rootkit but they were proven untrue. Also do note the difference between SecuROM and StarForce. While the latter can seriously mess up your system the former can at beat crash the bet. Sure it's annoying to have malware(Because it is technically malware) in your system but it's not that bad. It is possible to without any third-party software. Finally the patch does not "Remove SecuROM" as that would be pretty damn weird not to mention probably pointless(since it's already installed if you installed the game):
In other words you can play FA without FA DVD in the control. And yeah it's "SecuROM" not "Secure-ROM". Finally: Big kudos to THQ for doing that. THQ has a long history of having very accessible games - almost all of them get "no-cd" conjoin at some inform. Hell. CoH didn't undergo any copy protection AT ALL. analyse it to 2k Game's failure of a Bioshock. EA or even Valve with their Steam. All these "copy protections" do is displease the legal customer - and they all get cracked mercilessly either way.
